Weekend Wrap Up: Our 6-Month Anniversary

So it turns out… I’m a horrible wife!  The worst part?  I don’t even care!

Here’s why:  Andrew and I spent the whole weekend celebrating our 6-month anniversary.   We talked about all of our favorite parts of being married, how much we’ve grown, and those types of things!  During that conversation, we couldn’t believe it had gone by so quickly... so we did the math.  Feb - Mar (1); Mar - Apr (2) …. Welp… We got to September and realized… WE’VE BEEN MARRIED 7 MONTHS!

So I’m a bad wife because I couldn’t even get the dates right, but I don’t care because I love being married so much that time is FLYING.  So I take it as a compliment!

So now that you know we’ve been celebrating blindly, here’s what we were up to this weekend!

Friday, we headed to our favorite movie theater of all time:  Alamo Draft House.  Traveling by train, we chatted about how much we’ve seen of Denver.  We can’t believe we’ve almost been here 2 years now and wouldn’t trade our day-to-day for the world.  Once settled into our seats, we enjoyed a delicious chicken sandwich and a few cold brews, as we watch SULLY.  The movie was absolutely amazing… if you watched my snaps (@the_novice_native), you know that I had a rough start to my day Friday and a few good laughs/ a great movie was all it took to turn it around!  We laughed, we cried, and ultimately we both agreed it was a great film.

Saturday could be described as “The Perfect Day!”  We woke up early and cleaned the house together.  We both love when the whole house smells clean and everything is put away.  Then we headed to the grocery store and filled our basket with all kinds of goodies.  After all the chores were done, it was time to celebrate!  We grabbed to pup and headed out for an amazing hike.

After our nature adventure, we headed home to shower and make a celebratory dinner!  After throwing on some music, we started the grill and prepped the salad, salmon, and quinoa.  While we were getting things ready, Andrew snuck outside and snagged a bottle of champagne he had hidden over ice!  He walked in holding a beautiful, cold bottle of MOET.  The same bottle of champagne we shared the first night of our honeymoon!  I was so excited and the gesture was so sweet.  (I’m such a lucky girl!)

During dinner, our “First Dance” song came on and we thought it would be fun to see if we could still remember the steps.  To our surprise, we could!  We had a blast dancing in our living room floor and chatting about our wedding.

After dinner, Andrew grabbed the knife and cut the cake.  We have heard horror stories about the cake not tasting good, so we were prepared for the worst.  To our surprise… THE CAKE WAS AMAZING!!  (I mean so good I’ve had a piece every day since.  Cake for breakfast is a real thing.)  We raved about how good it was and how much we wished we had done the whole cake in the “Cinnamon Roll” flavor with cream-cheese frosting!  So… this is a formal apology to our guests – you missed the best flavor and we are sorry!

Sunday, we spent the day relaxing and decorating my new blog office.  I CANNOT wait to share it with you all.

All in all … I guess you could say we had a pretty spectacular 6(7) month anniversary weekend!  Cheers to having so much fun, you don’t know your anniversary!

PS... All of the china, serving dishes, drinking glasses, champagne cooler.... they were all gifted to us by our amazing family and friends.  Thank you all so much!!

Friday Faves: Polish, Clutches, and Corners!

The week, my list of favorites will make you want a makeover in every way!  From wardrobe to home decor, I can't wait to show you what I've gotten into this week.

The Polish!

Earlier this month, I stopped in my favorite day spa, Glosshouz in Centennial, for a quick manicure!  While perusing colors, I found a new line of polish and quickly became obsessed with their product.  Not only were the bottles GORGEOUS, the color selection was so diverse and well chosen for each season, I struggled to find a new fall color from their recent releases.  I finally settled on, Doe My Dear, a beautiful grey -- perfect for the upcoming season!  The polish stayed on over a week and the color turned out beautiful.  Needless to say, I snagged one for myself - obviously I needed it to display on my vanity!

The Clutches!

If you read my recent post on "White After Labor Day", than you fully understand the importance of accessorizing your outfit to polish off your look.  Clutches, handbags, and wallets can add just the right amount of color or add a texture you were missing to complete your ensemble.  This week, I put together a list of my current favorites for you!  Each of these pieces has a unique feel, color, and tone, but could be mixed and matched with the same outfit!  They are perfect additions for your fall wardrobe and the quality is amazing.  Varying in price, you may want to check them out HERE, or stop by Intrigue Boutique in the Highlands to shop them.  If your from Colorado and love to SHOP LOCAL... this is your golden hour!

The Corners!

This week, I'm opening our doors and sharing one of my favorite corners!  The sleek, modern look has a clean feel in all the right ways.  I love how the legs on this chair pull from my sense of style, but the low profile and neutral color pallet compliment Andrew's taste!  Adding a fun patterned pillow kept the feel of the room colorful and inviting.  The cow hide rug and the rustic flower pot toned down the coolness of the room, rounding off the look!

An Effortlessly Urban Ensemble

I know I promised you all an in depth look at my cousin Alex’s gold career last Friday, but as it often happens at the Byron Nelson… One glass of champagne leads to one flight of champagne leads to the Grey Goose VIP lounge leads to eating pizza in a hot tub with 10.8 miles of walking under your belt… So it’s understandable that I didn’t deliver as promised!  HOWEVER— I promise that post is still coming, along with the amazing time we had at the Four Season Las Colinas!

Instead of the “sports feature”, I thought I’d go ahead and share this fabulous look perfect for any day on the course.  It’s comfortable, sensible, and great for any activity that calls for tons of walking!

With the Byron behind us and the Colonial (another PGA golf tournament) ahead of us, finding an outfit that has some style, yet can also be described as practical is imperative!

Let’s dig in!  This look has been self-titled “Effortlessly Urban”…. Why?  Because those are two words that come to mind with this outfit.

The graphic tee is sleek, edgy, and casual, but can be paired with a fun skirt to create the ultimate stylish look!  The skirt choice was carefully calculated, as I needed something to draw on the edginess of the shirt, but not overwhelm the look with a dark nature.  Naturally, a feminine leather skirt was the perfect match.  It also needed to be slightly form fitting, to keep the look light and fresh.  A heavier skirt, or even a tool skirt, would have made the look “overdone” and could easily be looked at as trying too hard.

I had a blast playing on the urban feel of the top and skirt, so I threw in some fun tennis shoes to make the look more comfortable and keep with the feel of the ensemble!  Keeping the color palette neutral through the whole look, I was able to avoid awkward contrasts, keeping these very different piece cohesive and flowing, as patterns and fabrics changed.

The last thing I did to tie this look together, was add in some fun girlie earrings!!  If you haven’t read my review on how I made these gems, you’ll definitely want to check it out HERE.

I’ve linked a few good options for those of you who love this look, but think you’d struggle to accomplish it on your own—shop my look below!

Dallas Bound for the Byron!

Clean, crisp and stylish.  That’s what this look has going for it!

Over the past few months, I’ve fallen in love with the simplicity of neutral looks.  The blank pallet of color, in this case my white top, are classy and easy to pair with a multitude of bottoms.  The best part? They can have details that catch attention, but do so without an overwhelming presence.

I discovered this little ensemble when shopping for an upcoming trip.  I was having trouble planning my outfits when I stumbled into a local Denver boutique: Intrigue Boutique Denver.  I was so excited because they carried reasonably priced, adorable clothing!!  I actually found two outfits that I’ll be sporting on my little trip, but you’ll have to wait for the next look.  So where am I going?

This week, I’ll be heading to Dallas to walk with my cousin, Alex Moon, as he plays in his first ever PGA tour: The Byron Nelson.  The Byron has always been my favorite golf tournament, as it was played just minutes from our house growing up.  The warm spring weather, the fun sun hats, the Club 14 bar, and the light applause that comes in waves are all memories I’ll have forever.  The fact that Alex is getting to play in it this year is beyond exciting.

Obviously the outfit I wear is going to be important!  It has to be functional, golf appropriate, and adorable… This look was all of those!  The white top is light and loose fitting, which will help keep me cool in the Texas heat.  Meanwhile, the jeans I’ve chosen to wear are cotton based, which will breathe well, and will provide cover so my white legs don’t burn!  No joke, these are my new favorite jeans.  They feel like butter they are so soft!  The colorful necklace provides a hint of color keeping the look feeling spring-like and fun.  I’ve paired that accessory with some adorable and super comfy wedges that will be easy to walk in.

I cannot wait to get home, surrounded by family, and spend some time cheering Alex on!  Be sure to follow me on Snapchat (thenovicenative) to live the experience with me.  It’s going to be the best time!

xx,

Rebecca

Family Vacation Prep Guide:: How to Survive the Stress and the Weather!

Family reunions... Everyone has differing opinions on them, but I LOVE THEM!  The only place in the whole ordeal I struggle with (and I do this with every trip) is what to wear.  Everyone wants to look their best when it comes to seeing someone for the first time in a year, but you also want to dress for the occasion!
